MOM upside down is WOW!

One thing that gets me energized is a GREAT recommendation from a friend or friendly stranger for a new book, movie, song,etc...I decided to share what is working for me these days and would LOVE for you to add to my list (that's the best part of this village-besides, I have enough one sided conversations :) MUSIC I like to "Run It Off"; whatever it may be that I need to run FROM-a bummer exchange with someone, several hours of kid tantrums, the not so nice self-talk, whatever! My go to songs are 'Dare You to Move' by Switchfoot and 'F@*kin Perfect' by PINK. Try these for your warmup-and it won't matter what songs follow, you'll RUN all of your worries away! APPS songza.com (THE BEST-trust me on this one...music for every mood and activity), stickynotes (paperless POST-ITS on your phone or ipad, how cool is that?) WEBSITES kidpresident.com (this youngster is the genius behind this entry's title) and momastery.com are my top two blues beating, life affirming, no more worries for me websites. To be honest, a good bit of time browsing pinterest.com can solve ANY problem or question you have (although, it typically adds to the problems of your significant other since you create an obscene number of new projects.) BOOKS ANYTHING by Celia Rivenbark and Tina Fey for tears streaming down from laughing out loud enjoyment. MOVIES OR SHOWS If you are a mom-we know that movies do not get seen in their entirety (children wake up, multi-tasking takes place or you pass out before the opening credits are complete...I'm famous for this last one) For shows,my go to has always been Gilmore Girls. Quirky town, quirky characters, smart dialogue-it's all over the place and I can relate! I have also found myself watching Stephen King's Under The Dome television series. Could be the kooky characters, could be that the show is filmed nearby-it's probably a bit of both but it is full of fun and fluff! These tips are what I need more of; to feel connected with the great, wide world out there while gaining a few new. easy to use tools that will add a bit more WOW to this Mom!

A day without guilt....?

I stayed home with my two year old today. He woke me at 2am,then again at 3am...and by 4am-I gave in and emailed my boss. Something like, "my bleary-eyed, cranky self with no inner monologue will not be at work today. No thanks necessary :)" It has always been difficult for me to cancel or "no-show" to anything, especially work. Even now, as a parent, I still find myself cringing with each email I send apologizing for my absence. Recently,I toured my rising Kindergartener's new "big boy school." 2013...floating to the Archipelago of Last Years

As I watched 'Rudolph's Shiny New Year' with my boys on New Year's Eve, I thought about this past year. Would I visit 2013 in the Archipelago of Last Years? I didn't climb Everest (a feat I was SURE I would accomplish by my 30s.) In fact, I don't recall leaving town-really... I didn't change jobs. I didn't update my wardrobe (although, I would have LOVED TO!) I didn't create my backyard oasis...AGAIN! in 2013, I laughed-ALOT!!! I laughed with family, friends and mostly AT my kids (particularly when they made genius comments and showed me that magic and innocence still exist-the oldest, for instance, wants to go to college and enter the 'Scare Program'...go for it, dude! I believe they're calling it the 'School of Education', now...Just Kidding ;) and myself (sometimes I think that I'm kind of a big deal in the universe's Reality TV scene...not quite Honey Boo-Boo level but certainly full of ridiculous segments!) Once a teacher-always a teacher

Before the new school year begins-I need a new look! Me-myself? No, I'm not that bold-my bedroom! My cozy haven that provides a therapeutic spot for weary days or nights-or even allows me to hide under pillows from a howling 3 year old (the 5 year old knows all my spots!) As I stood back and looked in at my hard work's accomplishments, I sighed with content...and then laughed! I had created three-that's right-THREE "work stations"...in my bedroom! One by the window-a cozy nook with great light to improve my yoga study and planning or to finish that children's book I started...in 2001! Then there's the second station-piled high with books related to behavior and girl bullies-for my more serious contemplations. And the third-next to the bed, of course, where I can easily drift off to sleep after reading all I really need to know to be a better mom (and I wonder why I never get a full night's sleep!)
