Dueling Theme Songs
I am a believer in music therapy. It takes time and it is NOT easy to find the right tunes to turn around or to improve some interesting moods! I have different types of tunes for different parts of the house; calming for the bath, Buffett and Reggae for the backyard, a variety of genres in our family areas...for the variety of moods and personalities that arise from the 4 of us! I like to have music playing all the time-keeps my spirit and body moving! There are only a few weeks out of the year where, however, I DEPEND on music-beginnings and ends of school years. (Just so you know, Christmas music at the end of the school year. You heard it right, I can't explain it. It just works.) So, being an educator-with children in school-you can imagine the importance of finding the right music to keep our hearts happy when there is so much new-ness and unknown during the beginning of the school year. My family and I survived the first week of school (there should be a shirt for that...and there just MAY be if I can fit some craft time in!) We went from lazy days without shoes to new shoes (that tore UP my feet, by the way!) From not picking up a pencil/pen and not using phone numbers to writing every single phone number and contact. From eventually deciding what to do in a day to doing EVERYTHING in half a day! You get the point-and you're probably doing it, too. We even threw in a first soccer practice-across town-right in the middle of the week. I recall looking up into the heavens a few times this week and saying out loud (I lost my inner monologue by Tuesday) 'Seriously?-I mean, I appreciate the whole faith in me bit, but now I think you're just getting a kick out of this.' At work I played Martina McBride's 'Blessed' on repeat (and if you haven't heard that one-download NOW and then play on repeat with me) Now that I am home-resting and relaxing...basking, really in the glory of completing the first week back to school with few bodily injuries (my new shoe injury is KILLING me and the 1st grader learned why we don't "play fight" with others at recess)-I believe Elton John's 'I'm Still Standing' is a good fit as well. We'll call it a tie!
