Looking to the books to FIX!

I recently ordered 'Bringing up Bebe' by Pamela Druckerman for my Amazon Kindle. This one is for the mommy in me that feels like I've exhausted all other options and need to try something new...why not check out what the French are doing? I can picture myself now; leisurely strolling and watching my incredibly well-behaved little boys frolick as I hand them little pieces of baguette and then we share the leftovers with the birds! Is it unusual to believe that a book can bring this reality to my life? (Maybe, but hope is a good thing, right?)
It's a good book. Granted, the author states that the country's culture/government supports mothers and maternity leave far longer than the U.S.  This makes QUALITY daycare and affordability not very high or even existent on the list of stressors. But-kids will be kids, right? Temper tantrums are not absent in any country-good start Pammy-kins! Yet, her impression (as a previously intense American, living in Paris) is that the French do a lot less "helicopter parenting" and do not hover nearly as much as she is familiar with from her friends in the States. They also seem to take it down a notch with 'Keeping up with the Joneses' and allow their children to thrive in any environment-rather than believe that they can only be successful in 'THE' highly exclusive environment! Another good point, Pam! The no-snacking thing...well, I've tried and failed. My sweet cheeked boys love a good stale handful of pretzels at the park just as much as their sweet jowled momma does!
I recommend it. Thanks to my French phrase of the day calendar I got as a Christmas present...I can feel like I'm bringing up my bebes the right way (with an accent!)
