2013...floating to the Archipelago of Last Years

As I watched 'Rudolph's Shiny New Year' with my boys on New Year's Eve, I thought about this past year. Would I visit 2013 in the Archipelago of Last Years? I didn't climb Everest (a feat I was SURE I would accomplish by my 30s.) In fact, I don't recall leaving town-really... I didn't change jobs. I didn't update my wardrobe (although, I would have LOVED TO!) I didn't create my backyard oasis...AGAIN! in 2013, I laughed-ALOT!!! I laughed with family, friends and mostly AT my kids (particularly when they made genius comments and showed me that magic and innocence still exist-the oldest, for instance, wants to go to college and enter the 'Scare Program'...go for it, dude! I believe they're calling it the 'School of Education', now...Just Kidding ;) and myself (sometimes I think that I'm kind of a big deal in the universe's Reality TV scene...not quite Honey Boo-Boo level but certainly full of ridiculous segments!) I took charge of my health-physical, emotional and spiritual (Thanks Kris Carr, Danielle LaPorte, Marianne Williamson & SARK!) I reconnected with the greatness that is hanging with gal pals-I had forgotten that I am SO much more than wife, mom and worker bee. I made resolutions to go the gym AT LEAST 3 times a week and when I didn't, I didn't beat myself up (I just listened to Pink's 'Fu@*in Perfect' and Matisyahu's 'Smash Lies' a few more times when I did go to make up for it-download them, you'll thank me later :) I told myself that it was "OK-OK-OK" when I snapped at my kids or my husband-that I will just do better next time...AND I believed it (BOOM-that's BIG!) I let myself be vulnerable and upped the honesty and straightforwardness in my interactions (even when, in the moment-my head was saying, "ohhhh-this is gonna be bad") I let myself be photographed and posted on Facebook & Instagram without photoshop (all chins included, flarms waving-in all my glory!!!) I journaled, posted and blogged-hugging my flaws and respecting my voice. 2013-for me was messy, humbling, scary AND Enlightening, Empowering, Exciting and REAL. I know I've got Rudolph, Baby New Year, O.M. and probably that funny caveman cheering me on for 2014! I can't wait to visit 2013 again...and every other year that I am so blessed to experience!
